Dead Sea / The place

One of the Earth's most spectacular formations: The Dead Sea – the lowest point on earth – yields the largest natural source of salts and minerals in the world. An abundance of 27 minerals is the key to the renowned healing powers of the Dead Sea.

At some 400 meters below sea level, the lowest point on the earth’s surface, the Dead Sea is one of the most saline lakes in the world. It is fed mainly by the Jordan River in the north and by perennial springs and streams from the east and west. Having no outlet, the Dead Sea is a “terminal lake” which loses huge amounts of water by evaporation into the hot dry air. This results in high concentrations of salts and minerals in a unique composition.

The Dead Sea has attracted interest and visitors from around the Mediterranean basin for thousands of years. It was a place of refuge for King David, one of the world's first health resorts (for Cleopatra and Herod the Great), and it has been the supplier of products as diverse as balms for Egyptian mummification to potash for fertilizers.

The Dead Sea products – especially mud and salts – are sold throughout the world.
